Moi, I'm Jola!
Hi, I’m Jola, a guide based in Helsinki. I first came here as an au pair, back when I was sure I’d become a teacher. Then I fell for this city (yes, even with the winters), and my tourism studies showed me how to combine both: teaching and storytelling, just with a better view.
My love for Finland began in a surprisingly unglamorous place: a dishwasher manual. (Ask me about it on a tour!) I have my educational background in tourism with focus on inclusive and sustainable travel and heritage interpretation.
On my walks I connect Helsinki’s history with the city as it is today, in a way that’s easy to follow, even if you’ve never read a page about Finland. I love a good story, and I’m happiest when guests laugh along the way.
Off duty, you’ll find me swimming at Allas, one of the best places to try Finnish sauna, wandering from café to café, or at home with my two cats.
My Tours
On my tours we move through streets, squares and stories, from the city’s Swedish and Russian past to everyday life today. You don’t need any background knowledge. I explain things clearly and simply, and I focus on the stories that make them stick.
Every group and every visit is different, so I plan my tours flexibly. Tell me what you’re curious about, how you like to travel and whether you have any access needs, and I’ll shape the route, pace and stories around you: more architecture, more local life, extra café stops, or a slower walk with more breaks.
Whether you’re travelling solo, as a couple, with family or in a group, the tour should fit you, not the other way round. Welcome to Helsinki!
My Core Values
- Stories over facts: dates fade, stories stay.
- Clear for everyone: no background needed.
- Everyone feels welcome: you're my guest.
- A little humour: it makes learning lighter.
- Authorized Helsinki guide
